The Light Brahma is a very large bird, although it does take longer to grow to maturity. They were the principal meat bird in the US from around 1850 to 1930 as they can get to 12 pounds for roosters and 9.5 pounds for hens, but also make a great egg layer. They are known as good winter layers and are a very easy to handle breed. The feathered feet give them the appearance of wearing "boots" and have a lovely white plumage with black hedges.

What color eggs does a Light Brahma lay, and how many a year?
Light Brahma hens lay about 150 to 200 light brown eggs a year and are known as good winter layers. It is also searched as Light Brama or Brahma chicken.
When do Light Brahma hens start laying?
Brahmas are a big breed that grows slowly. They mature around 22 to 24 weeks, so expect first eggs on the later end.
Can I order only hens, or will I get roosters?
Your choice. Order Female for hens only, Male for roosters, or Straight Run for chicks boxed as hatched, which usually means a mix. Our sexing is guaranteed 90% accurate. You don't need a rooster for eggs, and one rooster for every 6 to 10 hens is plenty if you want fertile eggs. Roosters reach about 12 pounds and hens about 9.5 pounds.
