This domesticated game bird is very hardy and makes for a great security system against predators. They tend to be very loud when an intruder is close! They are also very handy at taking care of insects, namely ticks and wasp nests. They also make for a great meat bird and are known to have very flavorful, dark meat.

Do French Pearl Guineas lay eggs?

Guinea hens lay seasonally and are poor layers, so most folks keep them for tick and insect control, as a flock alarm, and for their flavorful dark meat. You may also see them searched as Guinea fowl, Guinnea, or Pearl Guinea keets.

When are French Pearl Guineas full grown?

They are best processed at about 12 weeks if you raise them for meat. Adult hens reach about 3 pounds and males about 4 pounds.

Can I order only hens or only males?

Our guineas are straight run only, boxed as hatched. Keets are hard to sex, and adults are easier to tell apart by sound. Hens make a two-note call and males make a single-note cry.

Are French Pearl Guineas cold hardy, and what is their temperament?

Yes. They are excellent free rangers and handle Michigan weather. They are very noisy, protective, and stick together as a flock. Keep them confined early so they learn where home is.
